Percy Faith and His Orchestra – If Hearts Could Talk (ft. Bernadine Read) (written by Twomey, Wise, and Auric)
I love the funk that Percy Faith fuses with a jazzy almost soundtrack ready noise. It’s so noticeable on one of the other singles we have, “Corazon” that I had to discover more of his music. The classic bass line that screams funk and even a little reggae is a dominant characteristic of his work in the 70’s but not present on the other two tracks that we have. This song reminds me of a lullaby. I adore the arrangement of this song with its held-back temperament. Even though many instruments are used in this piece and it has a beautifully full sound, there isn’t any segment with lyrics in which they all sound at once. The climax seems to occur before Bernadine Read’s vocals even begin. Her voice compliments the instrumentation with an almost angelic, soothing consciousness. Its simplicity only adds to its bold contemplative mood and brings peace to the moment.
