When entering a new disc, I always check to see how many times or when the last time I mentioned the musician was. I didn’t recognize Lionel Hampton when we picked this up, but when doing that pre-post check, I found I actually have him on two various artists albums! It’s really nice to finally cap it off with a full LP.
Lionel Leo Hampton (April 20, 1908 – August 31, 2002) was an American jazz vibraphonist, pianist, percussionist, bandleader and actor.
Hampton worked with jazz musicians from Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, and Buddy Rich to Quincy Jones. In 1992, he was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, and was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1996.
